Elegy 

Without sex there would be no death.

Barring accident or injury, bacteria, which are asexual, divide endlessly. 
They are immortal.
 
Sexual organisms, which include most fungi, animals, and plants,
have evolved to restrict cellular growth by means of programmed cell death. 
Sex and death are intimately related.
 
Lynn Margulis  says: ‘Death is a sexually transmitted disease.’
